life tbh
When I was 4 I learned that boys and girls didn’t mix unless they did. It never made sense but I always went with my friends
When I was 5 I learned what it meant to have a crush on someone. To know that they don’t like you back. That is when I learned why sometimes boys and girls do mix.
When I was 6, I scratched myself and my brother ran to find a bandaid. This is one of the nicest things he has ever done for me.
WHen I was 8 i got baptised and made a commitment I still dont understand now. I also learned that friendship is temporary and some people leave you.
When I was 10 I “dated” for the first time. He told me he liked me and I didn’t know how to say no. Then I found out that some people aren’t always as good as they look, I left him.
When I was 11 The boy I dated bullied me. I learned people fall to peer pressure as easily as gravity takes a pin that silently hits the floor.
When I was 12 i learned that people judge as soon as they look at you and that you have to be the person they judge well. I learned that you have to be pretty and mean to be popular, i chose to be nice. I can’t be pretty
When I was thirteen I stopped eating because my waist wasn’t as small as other girls. I only ate one meal a day and it was a bread roll. I learned that torture sometimes exists in the brain when you think your closest friend truly hates you. Everyones opinion mattered and I learned that I would do anything to make it a good opinion.

@helperAve
This is so so beautiful! my god!!!
I absolutely adore the picture you paint of the gendered socialization and your mindset growing up.
That last bit really hit home, we are living in a world where I don't think they leave any woman out when it comes to shaming them for their looks. We could only make it better for the many generations after us by being the change ourselves.
Lots of love ♡
