the lamb's last cry.
my eyes read through the pages of a timeless tale
sacrifice of the lamb, a death ever bringing none to wail.
for the good decree of love was what they'd name
but why did this parasitic love reflect lasting shame?
unsung to the ears, a torn page veils the story untold
of how the lamb's miserable laments echoed across the fold.
of how till it's last cry it pleaded to be listened
cruel scents filled the air, when not a single eye glistened.
but in the name of the greater good they took a bigger price
freed from slaughter's clutches, unknown it already died with those cries.
the slash missed the neck, but the throat welcomed silent death
it ceased to utter a sound, reminiscing the last unanswered breath.
in disguise of the divine they were the ghouls
fed on the lamb's innocence with their silent scornful tools.
did the lamb possess no worth beyond the blade?
not long it took for the transient bloom to be decayed.
for the good they sought, the innocence they bled
the lamb, spared from slaughter, would have
been happier if dead.
@suu1309 you should post on more topics 🎨 I am interested in seeing how you will write a poem filled with bliss ,Nature of emotions and Duality of life ...you really nailed the psychological lamb one poerty ...waiting for more ✨️
@suu1309 This poem is heavy with sorrow yet laced with an unflinching truth. The imagery of sacrifice of a voice drowned in the name of a "greater good" lingers like an ache. The way silence becomes more damning than the blade itself—that hit deep....the lamb was spared but at what cost? The absence of a wound does not mean the absence of suffering and sometimes..... survival itself can be its own tragedy.
I also love the way you subvert mundane stories, imageries or metaphors and elevate them.. presenting them with a fresh, thought provoking perspective. Thats something truly special about your poetry—you’re not just a poet but a philosopher too. Suu, you think deeply and it shows in every line. I admire that!!
@azurePond isn't it too painfully poetic that sometimes death isn't leaving the mortal world, sometimes the graves are dug in the heart, where no one bothers to mourn. a kind of death that never gets condolences, but silence. it's like you're screaming but none ever listens, and all you grasp is emptiness. all you grasp is a silent death. yet you function, you function on that autopilot mode, because the soul's long dead.
thank you bud for your kind words. a gentle bow to the depth of your understanding.
@suu1309 Reminds me of that Taylor Swift lyric— Still alive, killing time at the cemetery, never quite buried (loml)
And thank you, bud. A gentle bow right back at you.... *scatters rose petals *
@azurePond ahhhh, the tortured poets department is my kind too. im the kind of swiftie who might forget the lyrics to cruel summer or style but would never forget folklore's my tears ricochet and exile, evermore's tolerate it and champagne problems and the gut slashing songs of ttpd. and loml, ohh gosh, it's such a heart wrenching song. same like the album's the smallest man who ever lived, prophecy and my boy only breaks his favorite toys.
@suu1309 Ahhh..... you have impeccable taste in Taylor’s most soulcrushing masterpieces! I never considered myself a Swiftie—I only knew that Love story song… and then Folklore changed everything.
Folklore, Evermore and TTPD hold some of her most gut wrenching storytelling. My tears ricochet, Champagne problems, Cardigan, This is me trying, Mirrorball—absolute emotional wreckage. I also love Archer from Lover album (honourable mention)..... and The smallest man who ever lived? That bridge alone....truly the kind even civil engineers dream of.
I also love My boy only breaks his favorite toys, I hate it here, Loml and Peter. And honestly even though many say it’s dramatic and corny....but I can’t help but love Who’s afraid of little old me.
Taylor really said....Let me personally rip your heart out....and we just thanked her for it 😭
@azurePond YESSSS! i found someone who loves the same kind of taylor's music as me. i literally got adrenaline rush reading your reply. taylor is seriously something else only. i mean who thought we'd listen to her sing "and i wouldn't marry me either, a pathological people pleaser" and scream it at the top of our lungs. who thought we'd literally resonate with "what a shame she's fu**ed* in the head". and like you said, that bridge in tsmwel, GOD!!, and the last lines, "i'll forget you but i'll never forgive", taylor's a poet for real. also, i too love the archer and mirrorball too much. and sometimes toh i feel that "you're on your own kid" is the song she wrote for all of us, like, it feels like she's speaking to me. but but but, how could i forget all too well 10 minute version, that bridge and screaming "and you call me up again just to break me like a promise" until we choke out. also the lines, im a soldier who's returning half her weight, she just went beneath my skin, oh damnnnn!!! i know im missing out on some, midnight was a good album too, and so was reputation. but my favs always gonna be ttpd, evermore and folklore.
@azurePond yeahhh, who's afraid of little old me is a goosebumpish song too, like when she screams these lines after that till the circus life made me mean, don't you worry folks we took out all her teeth, WHO'S AFRAID OF LITTLE OLD ME. peak goosebumps. even the bridge of The Bolter, wowww.
@suu1309 YES!YES YES!!!… Literal chills every time! And that ending—
You caged me, then called me crazy
I am what I am because you trained me
Oh, I forgot about Bolter… I love it too! (How did I even forget....)
She fell through the ice, then came out alive is literally about me… It's not even funny...okay ..a little funny😂!
@azurePond "there's escape in escaping" she said and thus we escape through her music. *winks*
@suu1309 That entire song is my soundtrack if my life were a movie...lol. It's like God made my life so I could relate to TTPD... I don't know if I should be *** about that.
Anyywayyyy, Taylor's got the best stories, you can be sure... * winks *
@azurePond AHHH, you're awesome bhaiii. your response indeed felt like breathing. 🍁😉
@suu1309
@suu1309 Your poem also reminded me of Angoisses....a painting by Schenck. While many interpretations tie it to religious themes... such as the sorrow of Mother Mary over Jesus' sacrifice... it also speaks to broader ideas of sacrifice, innocence and suffering that go unnoticed or unacknowledged (or the suffering that is noticed but is preyed upon)—just like in your poem.
(This is the painting . I do not own the image. It is from Google)
@suu1309
You have woven a truly heartrending poem. It seems to speak so eloquently of hidden distress, powerlessness, and loss of innocence. The use of the lamb as a metaphor used here not just as a symbol of innocence, but of the dreadful travesty of such an innocent being aware of pain and torment.
The imagery of implements and of distant but cruel 'others' contrasts with the pitiable descriptions of the lamb and its plight. There is an atmosphere of menace and futility that have a echoes of an abattoir or inhuman early Victorian surgical theatre. The sympathy the narrator expresses when conveying the plight of the lamb is so empathic that it feels like they are identifying as the creature. Which in turn makes the ending so bleak. The way the last stanza and even the last line is cut so short drives home the tragedy with a hammer blow that stops us in our tracks.
It made me feel desperately sad. I applaud your skill.
@BastionKnight the lamb refrained from speaking, welcomed silent death, yet you heard it. the poem did not weep loudly, yet you felt its tears. the lamb stood in the shadow of cruelty, and you saw it, you saw its ache, you saw it's pain. to see you understand it's plight feels like the suffering isn't forgotten. to be understood like this, so deeply, is a gift beyond words. thank you my Knight, bows down before you in complete gratitude.
@suu1309 😭😭😭 it's not just lambs who end like this😭😭
@Tinywhisper11 ahh, you got the symbolism, im so overwhelmed. thank you dearie<3
@suu1309 💖💖
