Complicated
It’s complicated,
not having a dad,
He didn’t teach me to ride a bike,
Or go with me to the daddy daughter dances,
It’s complicated to explain,
But even more complex to experience.
It makes you feel like a bad person,
Every time you get upset after school,
As you watch kids run to their dads.
My mom says he left for good reasons,
But what’s a good reason to leave your own kid?
To expect their mother to do everything.
What’s a good reason for that?
They don’t think about how the kid feels,
They don’t think how it will affect them,
They just expect them to move one,
To find someone new to walk them down the aisle,
To find someone new to approve the first date.
I always say I don’t care,
That I’ve moved on,
But I think about him all the time,
I wonder what he looks like,
And if he regrets leaving.
Not having a dad is complicated,
And it’s hard to explain,
But I’d explain it 100 times,
Just to have known him for a day.

😔
I hear the depths of your desire to know your dad in the poem.
Your words come to life.
Weaving a picture for us all to see a glimmer of your pain 💛
