Driving Again

The wheel feels foreign in my hands,

Cold metal, a reminder of the past,

A sudden jolt, a screeching halt,

My body shivers, heart in a cast.

The road ahead, a muted grey,

My gaze fixed, yet hesitant, still,

The curve I fear, the turn I dread,

But I hold on tight, against the chill.

I remember, a distant echo,

A time when fear seemed to reign,

But courage whispers now in the wind,

Promising, You will drive again.

The engine hums, soft as breath,

With every mile, my pulse beats loud,

A shaky hand, but steady heart,

Each breath a triumph, each step proud.

And though the past may cloud the view,

I move through fog with renewed light,

For healing is found in the turning wheel,

And courage blooms from darkest night.

The road is wide, the sky is clear,

The fear lingers, but I hold my ground,

One more turn, one more mile,

With each I rise, with each I'm found.

@ZenArashi Makes me wonder, what’s more pristine, the thoughts inside ur head, ur knack with words, or that long drive you are gonna take pretty soon..

@WiseSoul123

Why, thank you, Wise. I’m just drawing inspiration from my own experiences and it’s a respite from the challenges that I’m facing. I hope to charge forth in gusto and bravado.

Such a marvellously triumphant exaltation of resilience. I liked the way the descriptions of the vehicle and the emotions blend into each other, staccato and unyielding, then lulling but with underlying tension. The sense of motion too seems to echo the ongoing journey of healing, from the faltering steps to the gradual easing into smoother action, and always looking to the horizon.

It is a great piece and I am sure many will be able to draw not only comfort and inspiration from its narrative, but to also empathise and feel how the emotions behind it resonate with aspects of their own lives. A lovely poem from a talented poet who always seems to see the positive somehow.

@BastionKnight

As always, I’m an ardent fan of your responses. The journey of healing, much like the movement of a vehicle, is never linear as there is always a mixture of struggle and ease, tension and release.  Your words remind me of the shared nature of our struggles, how we are all driving toward something, toward understanding, toward growth, even as we battle our internal landscapes. Thank you, BK. ✨

🫂🤍.

The first 4 lines hit close to home.

Seems like you missed my response in SR earlier. Even if you don’t mind others saving this, you should consider preserving this with copyright, trademark and authority of whether one can screenshot or not.

I’m glad you posted. So far I voiced in a chat a time or two. Someday, I’ll upload on a forum akin to this one. Last time I did something like it- hardly had any reply or canned responses with no consideration. Rubbed me the wrong way.
