Lament to the Roses

Walking in my garden, I see earth desolate and bare.

Everywhere are scars and pits from the roses that once lived there.

”I don’t miss you, I don’t care- t’was for the best”, I say.

But my traitorous voice begins to crack, and my mask starts to decay.

Trudging through the garden of life, the sky an ashy gray,

The fog is rolling over me, I can’t see the light of day.

The atmosphere is heavy and still; “have you nothing to say?” I scream.

But the only response is my pain from within, oh, let me leave this horrible dream.

I want so much to find my roses, in a time where we all lived in one place.

Am I selfish for wanting to be with you, weak for wishing my pain erased?

Alone in my garden, I see no familiar faces. So few roses to bring a smile to my face, so many empty places.

I stumble through the mud with my eyes on the sky-a-gray; with nothing left here I have no reason to stay.

@burningRain127

This is a very lovely and deep poem.

This line is very beautifully written: “Trudging through the garden of life, the sky an ashy gray.”

Thanks for sharing!💜
