Neon Yearnings

In the city's breath, a violet glow, Where restless rivers of asphalt flow, A quiet chapel of shattered glass Holds whispers of what cannot last

The streetlights hum like choirs unseen,
Casting halos of pale citrine
Their fractured beams, so sharp, so fair,
Pierce the fog with a mournful glare

A garden grows in concrete seams,
Wildflowers bloom in electric dreams
Petals gleam with a sterile grace,
Soft rebellions in a steel embrace

Mirrored towers scrape the sky,
Trapping clouds that drift and die
Their golden windows catch the sun,
Yet hold the warmth for only one

An angel perches on a rooftop ledge,
A crown of neon, her solemn pledge
A subway’s sigh, a hymn below,
Carries echoes of all we know

She watches the apple, perfect, whole,
An Eden devoid of the serpent’s role
Sin arises, but there’s no exile nor fall— This haunted garden welcomes all

@azurePond

AHHH The alignment messed up! Here's the corrected version (Hopefully it aligns)

Neon Yearnings

In the city's breath, a violet glow,
Where restless rivers of asphalt flow,
A quiet chapel of shattered glass
Holds whispers of what cannot last

The streetlights hum like choirs unseen,
Casting halos of pale citrine
Their fractured beams, so sharp, so fair,
Pierce the fog with a mournful glare

A garden grows in concrete seams,
Wildflowers bloom in electric dreams
Petals gleam with a sterile grace,
Soft rebellions in a steel embrace

Mirrored towers scrape the sky,
Trapping clouds that drift and die
Their golden windows catch the sun,
Yet hold the warmth for only one

An angel perches on a rooftop ledge,
A crown of neon, her solemn pledge
A subway’s sigh, a hymn below,
Carries echoes of all we know

She watches the apple, perfect, whole,
An Eden devoid of the serpent’s role
Sin arises, but there’s no exile nor fall—
This haunted garden welcomes all

I have shivers! That is EXCELLENT! It is so amazing, and I have re-read it dozens of times now. The marriage of natural and synthetic is hypnotic. The whole piece feels like it is filled with contrasting textures: angular, sharp, rough, soft, delicate, cool, curved. Yet it all blends so seamlessly and compliments each other. You have described a city in modern magical terms, and each metaphor you have used is instantly recognisable and relatable. I feel I am walking through it's streets and I have been there before, though only now seeing it's true face for the first time. I cannot tell if this is a love letter or a recrimination towards this city, for I am blinded by the beauty of it all. If this 'haunted garden welcomes all', then I am afraid I am doomed to be another restless spirit wandering it's corridors of light.

*Bows with great respect to the great poet*

Wow, thank you so much for your kind words! I’m genuinely humbled by your response, Knight! I don’t know if I deserve the title of great poet, but I accept your respect and kind words with gratitude. It’s incredible to hear how much the piece resonated with you. I’m really glad it gave you that feeling of walking through the city, seeing it in a new light. You’ve made my day with your lovely comment!  * bows back *

You definitely DO deserve the title (sound of hammering in the background)...as i am sure anyone who has had the privilege of (louder banging, and the screeching squeal of chisel on stone)...reading your poems will most whole heartedly agree. Not only that but (louder hammering noises, and the clattering of scaffold poles)....*to the unseen noises makers off screen* ....lads, can you keep it down a second!? I am trying to write a reply here.....Sorry about that AzurePond...they are just finishing off your commemorative laureate statue.....anyway, keep them coming because your fans demand more.

@BastionKnight

(not sure where that second statue at the bottom came from. I suspect sympathetic autogenesis)

Haha, classic autocorrect! Looks like it got a bit carried away and decided I needed two statues. Or maybe it’s the Medusa in the machine. Honestly, thank you again so much – I needed that! * smiles * Also why am I googling - How to protect statues from bird droppings ?

Haha, you’re too kind and funny! I feel truly honoured (and slightly overwhelmed by all the commotion!) – thank you for the lovely words and for the very dramatic tribute! The thought of a statue being built in my honour is almost too much to process, but I’ll gladly accept the fanfare. I have a painted portrait of my family back at the house (I know, sounds obnoxious), but a statue sounds 100% cooler * Instantly levels up with more aura points against my siblings *. Now, I actually want one for real! I’ll do my best to keep the poems coming, as long as the scaffolding holds up! Thanks again for your incredible support – it means the world to me! And I’ll definitely buy you all Belgian chocolates if you make my nose just right!  * waves at unseen statue builders *

@azurePond Yes! This is gorgeous. 'wildflowers bloom in electric dreams' is so beautiful and weaving religious imagery into the end was just *chefs kiss*. It's all haunting and lovely.

@determinedSea4370 Thank you so much for your beautiful words! I’m really glad the lines resonated with you, especially the imagery. ‘Wildflowers bloom in electric dreams’ was actually one of those “eureka” moments for me. At first, it was going to be something like ‘a garden of Eden with concrete trees,’ and then I struggled with what to add after ‘electric dreams.’ I even tried ‘lingering sins of electric dreams,’ but it didn’t quite fit the vibe I was going for in that particular stanza. I also wanted to reveal the Eden in the final stanza. I’m so happy it worked out, and hearing your feedback really means a lot.
