Procastination

I'll curl up in a steel shell

to gum up the clock

that tears me apart

and yet I still feel it ticking-

the existential churn

of a promised tomorrow.

And if I walk forward

won't I just be nauseated

by the echoes of myself

looking forward

looking back

only to find

the same grey expanse?

To stall

is the art

of casting for a miracle

when the wheel is only ever coming

to break your wings again.

@Heather225 Thank you! On a surface level, I was just procrastinating going into a shop to do errands by curling up in my car, but on a deeper level I was having a rather poetic existential crisis lol.

@determinedSea4370 This poem is incredibly unique in how it captures the weight of time and self-reflection. The line "I'll curl up in a steel shell / to gum up the clock" is such a striking metaphor for trying to escape the relentless passage of time. The tension between looking forward and looking back, only to find "the same grey expanse," is so haunting. The way you explore the struggle for change amidst inevitable cycles is brilliantly expressed. Beautifully intense like a determined sea before a storm!
