The Lily
A lily in the garden was once swaying in the breeze
she smiled at the bushes, she waved at the trees.
there was not a single cloud up in the aspen sky
the weather was pleasant and the sun kept her dry
her only job was swaying back and forth as she did best
the world was oh so bright, she had no reason to be stressed
One day a ladybug crawled up to the flower
oh lily, can you help me, and lend me your power
can you fan your petals over me, can you keep me warm and safe
for I am just a little bug, but you are very great
smiling, the kind lily held up her petals,
she let the bug get comfortable, she helped him to settle.
the lily once again began to rock back and forth,
but she felt a little heavy, and she leaned to the north
nevertheless the lily kept a smile on her face,
being the picture of bliss and the vision of grace
she waved to a blossom who was lying on the ground
the blossom was lonely, there was no one else around
The blossom asked lily, “would you let me inside?”
you have room between your petals for a small plant to hide
beaming, the strong lily said “welcome aboard”
and with a chance to help, her spirit soared
With a couple of wobbles and a smallish shake
the lily started to sway, though her stem started to ache
As fall came along, cold were the nights
the wind it howled and the chill seemed to bite
the lily could still sway, she could cheer all her friends
although it was getting difficult to self mend
one day as the frost was settling in,
lily found a small ant who wore a frown and not a grin
when she asked, the ant explained that he was cold at night
and the lily picked him up, and she held him tight
though her petals sagged and her stem was frayed
she held her friends up and she tried to sway
but this time was different, with herself unwell
she broke all together and everyone fell.
The frost on the ground was relentless and those
who didn’t put themselves first, well, they all froze.

@burningRain127 That is an AMAZING poem and a real sweet way to explain why people should take self-care before it is needed so that then they can spring back and help even more people! Thank-you for posting!
