This is not a poem, but a conversation.
Conversations among Friends
The Healer laughed, her tone teasing
“You deserved that coffee thrown in your face”
The Charmer smirked, a brow raised high
Wiping the splatter, feigning a sigh
“Pity this face, so flawless, divine”
He quipped like a champion sipping fine wine
“Perhaps if you paired a bit of emotional skill
With that sharp IQ and your strong will”
The Schemer observed, his gaze like ice
Pinching his fingers, his words precise
The Charmer scoffed, his pride intact
“As if, Machiavelli, you’ve empathy to act”
The Fighter burst out, her laughter a storm
While the Schemer, unfazed, kept his form
“Why do you dissect all things this way”
The Fighter asked, a mix of dismay
“Because,” the Schemer replied, his tone a sneer
“I’d rather be sharp than clueless, my dear
My superpower? Spotting fools
A skill unmatched in life’s cruel schools”
He glanced at the Fighter, a pointed jest
But she ignored him, refusing the test
“Speaking of fools,” the Healer chimed in
“Charmer, apologise; let kindness win”
“Or shut them out; why even try”
The Dreamer mused with a distant sigh
“Why waste time on conflict or care
Just throw some coffee back and clear the air”
“Violence solves nothing,” the Healer said
But the Fighter smirked, her knuckles spread
“I’d punch them hard and walk away
Sometimes action’s what saves the day”
The Healer shook her head with grace
“Charmer, you’re wrong; now save some face”
The Charmer gasped, a hand to his chest
“What, my dear Healer, taking their quest”
“Hey, listen,” the Dreamer called
His focus on his sketches, his tone enthralled
“Would resurrecting some powerful knight
Fix this plot, or just feel contrite”
“Deus ex machina,” the Poet said
“A shortcut for tales where the plot feels dead
Instead, make it organic; let the threads entwine
For stories bloom where their roots align”
“But the Bible did it best, though,” the Schemer spoke
The Poet kicked him, “Don’t test me, you rogue”
“Careful,” she warned, “or I’ll pen you a fate
Where your schemes unravel a little too late”
“So, heroes fight and do hard labour?” the Fighter asked
“Why all the fuss if they’re overtasked”
“It’s not about fighting,” the Healer chimed
“It’s mending hearts, not breaking spines”
The Schemer leaned back, his tone still sharp
“Let’s not pretend weakness is an art
Real heroes choose what’s hard, not sweet
They face the storm; they feel the heat”
“Perhaps that’s why we love them so”
The Charmer mused, his voice aglow
“They stumble, fail, then rise anew
Their flaws and strengths a mirror too”
“Flaws as excuses” the Fighter groaned
“When do they own what they’ve condoned”
“Responsibility, yes,” the Dreamer agreed
“But compassion too; both must proceed”
“Kindness won’t crush a villain’s plot”
The Fighter argued, her temper hot
“Sometimes you fight, and blood is spilled
A hero wins by iron fists and iron will”
“Balance is the key,” the Schemer proposed
“Strength and compassion juxtaposed
Action and thought, a blend supreme
But can it ever truly be achieved?”
The Dreamer nodded, lost in thought
“Heroes face demons, not just as they ought
They fight for change, for something more
Their hearts as battlefields, their spirits soar”
“Or they fail grandly, and still they learn”
The Schemer smirked, letting the thought burn
“Failure teaches like triumphs can’t
Though failing myself? A distant chant”
“Perhaps,” the Healer softly said
“A hero is one who grows instead
Acknowledging faults, embracing pain
Inspiring others through loss and gain”
“Hero or not, I’ll take the punch”
The Fighter laughed, her fist a crunch
“Still, I see the point you make
Heroes bend but never break”
“I’ll punch you first,” the Schemer teased
His mock seriousness almost pleased
The Fighter tapped her watch, her voice a sarcastic flow
“Shouldn’t you be terrorising other people now?”
The Schemer gave her a mock grin
Turning to the Poet, “What’s with the napkin?”
The Charmer sighed, “As if you can’t tell”
The Poet smiled, “I’m writing this poem, oh well--"

Amazing. Absolutely amazing! The characters are larger than life and their individual voices are palpable. Their discussion and varied points of views are insightful, challenging, and above all else....enthralling. I was only saddened that the whole piece was not part of a graphic novel, as I think it lends itself completely to being illustrated. Your rhyming couplets seem so natural and organic which is no small feat considering the length of the poem, so i stand in awe. And I LOVE the meta nature of the poem being the poem the poet composes of the conversation they were part of.
Fantastic. I cannot express it with high enough praise.
