This isn't what friends are for
I've turned myself from friend to siren-
with none of the beckoning allure
and only death to spare.
Blue and red screaming down the neighborhood.
My skin is pearlescent with bandages
and I sing to you from under waves of alcohol
that you should come and save me.
And you do and you do.
Because none of my inane jokes
and gentler nudges mean anything to you
and I'm left in a flatline of your silence.
For days.
For weeks.
For months.
Until I peel away my pleasant skin
and crawl up on you like a corpse
to hold you hostage with my danger.
And it's not what I want to do
but I can't deny that you've grown a monster in me
that makes me want to squeeze the love out of you
until your heart breaks.
And then I won't be the only one
screaming in my car
in constant pain.
In constant need.
@determinedSea4370 I've seen this happen unfortunately🙁 people becoming so independent on someone that they don't stop to think about what the other person is going through or their needs, instead they resort to be nasty to the person they rely on the most🙁 you captured the anger of the character so well 💖
@determinedSea4370 Hey Determined Sea , I am happy that you finally wrote the poems! This one wrecked me. It’s haunting and honest in a way that lingers... the descent from quiet love to desperate survival, from siren to so called monster. The grief of being ignored until your pain turns sharp… you captured that so powerfully.
I don’t want to make this about myself but I’ve had my fair share of people who just took from me — love, care, energy — until all I had left were the darker emotions: rage, bitterness, desperation. And when I finally broke... they called me the monster. So I understand at least a little, the emotions you’ve poured into this.
TW : Emotional Abuse
One thing I learned in therapy that I want to share with you is something called reactive abuse — when someone who’s been emotionally manipulated or abused finally reacts (with anger, shouting, sometimes even lashing out) and suddenly they get blamed. But that rage is a valid response to being pushed past your limits. You should never feel guilty for it. It’s not your fault. It’s theirs.
Thank you for writing this — for putting something so raw into words. You’re not alone in this.
