Void Wish
A teenage girl groaned
under the weight of socialized expectations-
wanting an expanse of silence
just for herself.
The parties and playdates spun merry-go-rounds
around her weekends
and so she reached for a golden ring-
childhood tumbling off a cliff edge.
A void that she had asked for.
Now the woman is silky wrapped
in cold sheets
in the embrace of a lonely hangover-
of days spent singing
and screaming
trying to fill an empty house.
And now
she decorates her void
with little blue screens.

Poignant, beautiful, and lonely. It feels like a very moving description of the transition from the heady carefree days of youth, and the dreams of such times, to the bleaker and harsher realities of growing up. As melancholic as it's themes seem to be, i could not help but be enthralled by the images of the last two lines "She decorates her void with little blue screens". Love it!
