Different Types of Dreams and What They May Mean About You

According to the National Sleep Foundation, we typically dream about four to six times per night. There’s no way, you might be thinking, but that’s only because we forget more than 95 percent of all dreams.

Dreaming happens throughout the night, but our most vivid and often remembered dreams happen during rapid eye movement (REM) sleep.

A dream can be influenced by what we’re thinking about before we go to sleep, or what we’ve experienced in our waking day. Dreams can also bring to light what we’re avoiding thinking about or our anxieties.

According to research, 65 percent of the elements of dreams are associated with your experiences while awake.

If you’ve got job stress, your dreams might take place at work or involve your co-workers. If you just went on a date, your dream might be full of romance, or on the flip side, heartbreak, if you’re having anxiety about dating someone new.

A “standard” dream will vary depending on the individual, but below are some features of dreams:

  • Most dreams are predominantly visual, meaning that images are at the forefront of dreams, rather than other senses like smell or touch.
  • While most people dream in color, some dreams are entirely in black and white.
  • The less stressed you are, the more pleasant your dreams may be.
  • Dreams can be very strange — and that’s totally normal.
  • Your mood, events in the news, pain, violence, and religion may all influence your dream’s subject.

@magicalOcean594 yeah they tend to fade as soon as you wake up

I try to memorise them as soon as i wake up otherwise they'd be lost forever

Also they're kinda hard to explain

@zealousGrace5023 Dreams are very definitely very interesting. I once had a dream where me and my family were chased by a giant, sentient pumpkin 😂

@comfortableNight4463 I vividly recall having a "boogeyman chasing family" dream as a child!

My dreams have everything in them - picture, smell, touch, sound... They also have a pattern, one dream is the continuation of the previous one, the locations repeat in a logical way, like in real life, they are always positioned in the same manner, even though they look nothing like the irl locations

Sometimes I get very frightened by my dreams. If I study on the Internet what they mean, then I will soon die or some other scary things. So I try not to pay attention to dreams.

I've had lots...

One where the entire dream was just dice rolling across the table and I hear a Cartman-like voice chanting "I'm the big dice!"

One where the entire dream was me loudly farting in a busy marketplace... As a gorilla.

One dream had ending credits with some kind of country song about peace and lemons.

I had one last week about Beetlejuice going to start a new "life" under the ocean.

Last night I dreamed that I somehow digitally built this Mayan looking temple and all the bricks were covered in random song lyrics, but some of the bricks had lyrics that I made up, and touching those words would open up secret passages and stuff.
