Question: am I allowed to respond to a newbie in spanish to welcome them, then to ask if they can post in English going forward?

Please flag the post and it will be removed and the forum Team will ask them to post in English.
If you reply to them in another language it can lead to a snowball effect, and you may then be messaged too. The Rules state that posts need to be in English.

@DemiMondaine I've gone ahead and responded in Spanish and asked that everything be in English going forward. Anyway just to update everyone - I've found a new location to log my responses as I've joined the forum challenge! Yay 🎉 so I won't continue to clog up this thread.
