What do you wish there was more awareness for?
There are so many things we go through in life, yet sometimes it can feel like we don't have much of a space for speaking about it or for it being acknowledged. However, we have special events on 7 Cups which encourages more awareness and discussion on various topics!
So what would you like more awareness for?
Awareness on how important animals are in our life and how important is to stop killing them or hunt them for our joy.
Being kind towards animals, taking care of them, the benefits of therapy with animals ... such things.
So many people are treating them so badly. And that can surely affect sensitive people pretty bad (I'm one of those); it would be pretty great to see something like that in here.
You are in luck @cristiana33 !
One of our upcoming special events this month is in honour of Wildlife Conversation Day!
@cristiana33 I'm with you on this being an important issue.
Awareness on blame. Like not blaming others and pointing fingers, instead trying to solve the problem and talking it out. If you don't know who did it don't assume. Being blamed for something you didn't do hurts a lot more.
Blame can have such a huge impact on us - blaming others, being blamed, self-blame, and it's a common occurrence in even our everyday life. Problem-solving is such a good skill to learn and have too.
Thank you for this @Shinryu ! Definitely would like to shed more light on this subject. Given a lot of food for thought already!
@Shinryu That's a great point! I love it :)
Now there's a good point right there @shinryu :-)
Dysautonomia/Postural orthostatic Tachycardia/Autonomic Nervous system disorders as a DISABILITY.
@knitter65
Yes!! This would be great. I also just found out that October is Dysautonomia Awareness Month.
@QuickJazz Yes I have great family support. We even have a Dysautonomia Support family picture as a way to spark a discussion about the topic. 7 Cups really is the perfect sort of site to support people with dysautonomias and their families. No question that the disability support room provides a place for people with rare physical disorders to talk openly and feel heard. Its really the first place I haven't felt totally lost. If I can be of assistance in this matter Jazz please let me know.
I think this site, needs to do more work around other mental disorders besides just anxiety and depression. We need more OVERT support/resources for members who suffer from psychosis for instance.
Also, there should be more training for Listeners around those issues. I don't think anyone should qualify as a Listener, if they are uninformed or feel uncomfortable with psychosis as an issue.
Before we raise awareness about other social issues, we need more education about mental health here at 7 cups.
Definitely @DonnieDorko ! Tried to achieve this for Mental Illness Awareness Week in particular (we created a discussion on psychosis, for example). But I've been looking forward to building on this and taking it further! I think your ideas for more overt support and resources has identified a great area that can be focused and improved on.
I know this is a place for mental health and I feel like it needs to be spread other places than this. I feel like this is rea lly good, but I'm talking about research into why mental issues are a thing, why we are born with them. Hopefully one day, this will make it possible to see mental and physical issues at an equal.

Sounds like genetic counseling would be a great idea for future special events. It is indeed a very important topic and often many people have no idea about it.
Removing stigma and creating equality between those two things will start with awareness but, as you say, education is a key part of that too. There are many things that are still mysteries to us regarding the human body and neurology in particular. But highlighting what we do know would still be a good place to start. @frenchhornplayer1000
Awareness for Binge Eating Disorder (BED). Many people think body disorders are only if you have a frail, tiny frame, or if you force yourself to stop eating, like anorexia or bulimia. Binge Eating Disorder is when someone feels a strong need to eat. Compared to other disorders, (BED) has much less attention from the media, but is just as important.
We should spread awareness among ourselves, us humans.
even though this sounds awkward, we will first have to be the change we want to see.
We can start by our family or even close friends.. Lots and lots of people feel left out and alone thinking they cant fit in 'the crowd'
Let's ask ourselves 'Is there anyone who is feeling left out in my family?' or 'Is there anyone who has been hurt because of me?'
There's no harm in saying sorry. It wont kill you rather it would make someone forgive you!
Many children just at the age of 10 or 11 start using the internet for adult chatting and other stupid things. Why? they want someone to give them attention even if its for a couple of minutes. Tbh, everyone wants to be heard.
We can spread awareness just by simply saying a 'hello' to a person sitting alone or who is feeling left out.
Who knows your 'hello' would change their life?
Simply just by this children will stop using internet for wrong things but for their benefit.
That's all i have to say.. to spread awareness among people is not to just share them with people whom we know but widen our social circle and help people who are feeling left out.
I would like to see more awareness on Jealousy and comparing ourselves to others, thinking that they are better than we are. Jealousy often times creeps up on us and we don't realize that that is the emotion we are dealing with until it has already affected our relationship. We need to be able to recognize it and deal with it so that is doesn't consume us and ruin our relationships.
I'd like awareness for BFRBs like hair-pulling disorder, excoriation disorder, onychophagia, etc. BFRBs are really unknown, so spreading awareness would be awesome
@Monarda I agree. Even my mental health doctor knows nothing about these - I tried to tell her that my skin-picking is a form of self-harm and she replied that it doesn't put me in hospital so it can't be that bad!
How to cope with paranoïa, depression, self harm, suicidal feelings, hearing voices, disorganization...
Agreed
