There are times in life that mark big milestones in our memory and experiences. These are situations that leave an impression and a feeling that we will never forget. For example, the first time you really grasp that you are now an adult and have to be responsible for all the things associated with this new sense of independence.

The thing that I remember most vividly was when I moved away from home for the first time. That feeling of being completely independent was so exhilarating and so exciting, BUT at the same time very scary and stressful. I had waited my whole childhood for this freedom, this intriguing future of making my own decisions and doing what I wanted and now....yikes!! I will never forget those intense mixed emotions of happiness and a bit of panic -- omg, I am now really 100% responsible for myself. When I think about it now, it still brings back those butterflies in my stomach and makes my heart race a bit. Thank goodness, after some tough lessons learned the hard way, it all worked out, but I will never forget that overwhelming sense of fear, excitement and pressure which felt so different from the fantasy I had in my head 😁

What was the point in your life when you realized you were a full-fledged adult?

@halcyonCloud2036 I think that there are a few times when I've felt myself feeling "older." Going to college and my parents leaving was definitely scary and I felt like "what now?" 😂 Then, I moved into a college house and it felt like I was an adult even more so when I had to set up the electricity and gas bills and pay them every month. I even felt really off after I graduated college because it went in the blink of an eye. I am very lucky that I am living back at home with no rent, but I know that when I go to grad school, it will feel surreal again!

I realized I was the 'adult' in the family when I was about 11 years old. I was responsible for helping and supporting myself (not financially, but otherwise), as well as for attempting to 'parent' my parents' emotional well-being. From that point on, I couldn't wait to turn 18 and finally have the legal capacity to claim adulthood.

I really understand how it feels, it's been that way since i was 6, then when you become an adult you start to feel like a real child, you need someone to look up for you.

you start needing someone to care about, to love, to express all the kindness in the world... you start needing your own self... and it is hard to handle.
