Accepting a new life…

My whole life this year has changed, relationships, moving and employment. It has changed so much and I’m finding it really hard to accept, it’s a constant struggle - I have friends here and a job. In January I found out that my ex partner had been cheating on me with my best friend for around 3 months. I packed my friends car and he drove me 2 and a half hours away to where I now call home at my auntys place. They posted there relationship the next day on Facebook not even 24 hrs after I had found out, I lived in a smaller town so I received messages from people asking if I was okay and if it was a joke (I had been with my ex partner for 7 years). It was hard. My family looked at me as if I where a charity case. I had never gotten that look before. I was doing fine, I was happy. I had accepted the move, my friends and started seeing someone. Then he reached out and called me. He begged for me to take him back, it would be different, he’d change, we’d move away… I told him this damage could not undone, it took me to long to put the pieces back this time. Now I can’t get my old life out of my head, I’m falling into old ways of not wanting to leave the house unless it’s for work. I’m struggling with doing everyday things. I can’t stop thinking about it, I want to move back. Any pointers?

Hey! Firstly, you're so brave for sharing this. I can't even begin to imagine what it's like after 7 years of trusting someone and giving them your all to be treated in this manner.

No one should look at you as a charity case but rather as a strong person who is rebuilding their life after a huge betrayal.

It would be so easy to let everything slide, not to keep up with work etc. But you're doing it.

It is your choice whether you believe this person deserves another chance and it's something only you can do.

Something I will say is... By letting a person back into your life after this has happened... I don't believe things could easily go back to normal. He broke your trust and continued to do so for months.

Yes it hurts to be without him. Of course it does.

But your self respect has to come first. Think about what it is you deserve and don't settle for someone because you have feelings and history.

Yes people make mistakes. Personally, I would not be able to trust again and would rather take my chances in healing than being with someone who so easily discarded me.
