Domestic Abuse

Hello, I'm new here and I'm not too sure if this is the right place to post? I've recently come out of an abusive relationship. I tried to leave so many times but always found myself back there, was it guilt for him? Or was I so manipulated that I couldn't see what was happening.. I know now that I'm safe and I wondered if there was anyone else on this chat that had been in an abusive relationship and wanted to chat?

Yes, me. 8 years with abusive husband. I went back once to him. I have many years of therapy to heal. Now I am fine. However I am new to this app and I don't know how to chat.

@ALM1 Congratulations for getting yourself safe. It saddens me to say, but I have far too many years of experience with physical and emotional abuse.

I too have been in that same spot. I would get hit, she would say she would stop. Then it would cycle back again. She was arrested and then I let her back in after she got some "help". But it all started again and I was being manipulated. For myself I know I kept taking her back because I loved her. I wanted what we once had. But after 7 years of being hit I finally had to throw in the towel and gave up. It took a long time to feel normal again enough to date or even trust people. I have made it to the other side now thankfully. Feel free to reach out if you want to chat. I have more experience in this than I want and part of the healing for me has been talking to people to help them through it.

I was in a mentally and physically abusive relationship many years ago and I never got help at the time so for many years I suffered from after effects from that relationship, flashbacks ,anger issues , emotional issues etc. . and it wasn't until 3 years ago that I finally decided I needed help after my issues caused so many problems with my currant relationship and he said enough was enough . Its still a ongoing process with me as I still have bad times but I'm getting there . I just wish I had seeked help sooner , so I say to you if you need help please speak to someone now because it will help you in the long term

Yeah it is probably guilt. He probably gaslights u into thinking he was "better before" and that if you hadn't done certain mistakes then it wouldn't have gone that far. I understand. Just be proud that you are safe now ans that you can grow as a person.
