First Heartbreak (2 year relationship)
(19m) (20f) She broke up with me a week ago because she was completely drained of trying in the relationship. She said that we both grew up and grew out of each other's lives. She felt our old conflicts were unresolved and that we were walking on each other's heels. When she told me that she wanted to break up I tried to convince her to keep trying because we both said we still love each other. The last thing I suggested was a break and when she said no to that I just stopped trying. Over this past week, I can see so many of the red flags in our relationship that I chose to ignore in the hopes of fixing our relationship with what we had.
- She had bad communication (we were school-based long distance so summers together) and every time I asked for more she would turn it around on me and say that she doesn't feel like she has to be on her phone "all the time" and "tell me everything she was doing". She barely told me about her days most times.
- She did not reciprocate a lot of the actions and gestures I did for her. I didn't do them with the inclination to get something in return. I honestly can't recall a really nice thing she did for me for a few months.
- I would sacrifice my time, school, and work for her on multiple occasions and she would barely return the favor if I asked. This came to more light when we would plan visits to see each other at school.
- She would just put a happy face on rather than talking about her emotions and feelings even after I try and check-in and see how she is doing.
Even after seeing all these, I wish I was still with her because I love her. Current tense, not past. I tried and tried for the relationship even when it wasn't good for me but I was too emotionally blinded to ever break up with her. I always thought that we could get through our problems and move forward. Even after realizing all of this, I am still sad and feel like there is a hole in my chest. I'm just heartbroken.
