Hello all, so Im currently in a situation which I have never been in before. For the past two weeks Ive been trying to process this whole situation and I just cant seem to figure out how and when to do it. My boyfriend and I are both 20 Incase thats any useful information. Anyways, I would say for the past few months Ive been having so many negative feelings towards him and its finally got to the point that I dont want this relationship anymore. What makes it hard to leave is what he may do as a result because based on what hes told me he says he has depression. So Im scared that he may try harming himself b/c of the breakup and he has also been going through a lot lately. Also I know most of his family and I feel bad bc I would be ruining all of those relationships I have with them. I honestly just dont feel the same anymore. Im not happy with this relationship. I feel uncomfortable even going to this house since he doesnt bother coming to visit me. I feel like a horrible person doing this to him especially when hes still dealing with certain things in his life but I think he can find someone better. I even thought about writing what I feel and giving it to him bc whenever I decide to talk to him about it I know Ill forget half of what I wanted to tell him. He truly loves me so thats also making this situation hard to handle because I know this is going to break his heart but he deserves someone that will love him dearly. And we make 5 years in 2wks

Hi. You obviously care about him but you need to do what you need to do. You cannot continue in a relationship if you feel this way. You owe it to yourself to be happy, and to him that he finds someone who loves him.

If you're worried about him hurting himself then maybe you can ask one of his close family members to be close by as you break the news to him so they can support him afterwards.

Break-ups are never easy. They're sort of like death. And it won't be easy to lose the relationship you had with his family but is there any other way around this? Is there something that can be done to save the relationship? Do you even want to?

Regarding breaking the news: well, you've known him for five years. I think its best that you do it face-to-face. Maybe you can hand him over a letter after you've said your piece but I doubt that anyone would want to have a letter on why they're getting broken up with. Sure he can throw it away or burn it - idk. You can try to write down what you say and practice it beforehand.

Hope this helps.
