I feel like I'm losing everything.
A few weeks ago, my husband started acting strangely, just kind of mean and distant. It's been escalating and now he's just openly hostile. He snaps at me and doesn't want me around him. He hasn't wanted to eat anything I've cooked and he just wants to do everything by himself. He says he's in counseling, but won't go to counseling with me because it's "not an us thing" but I can't help feeling like it is, otherwise why would he be so mean all the time?
I already have severe anxiety and panic disorder and I've been having panic attacks every day since this started. I just want my friend back, I don't know what has happened and I don't know what to do if he won't talk to me. I can't live like this anymore.
Hi @ButtermilkBiscuit
I can imagine just how hard it must be for you right now. Without assuming too much, there are various reasons that come to mind for his behaviour and as hard as it might be to understand, it could very well be nothing that you have done.
I understand, we want to protect those we love, we want to help them and we want to know when we have hurt them so we can make things right but sometimes, it's not something we have done or something we can do about it. The most we can do is to be there for them when they reach out and not to push until they feel they are ready to share.
The fact that he realised he needs professional help and has reached out is a really important step, no matter the difficulties he is going through.
Do you have a friend or family member that you can lean on for support as well untill things become a bit clearer?
Stay strong and just be there when he needs you and know that there is a possibility that he may not be thinking clearly or rationally and may also be pushing you away as to not hurt you.
The mind is a difficult thing to explain, even to our selves at times.
