I need help with a long distance break up

Basically my LDR boyfriend broke up with me after over a year of a relationship. He broke up with me for a lot of reasons, he was stressed, distance got too hard after a failed attempt at visiting, he started public school and met new people and didn't know how to manage relationships and friendships, he wanted me to find someone better. We both still love each other and I'm visiting this summer we plan to meet up, I plan on going to college over there in two years. I really want him back after we've taken some time to work on ourselves. I came up with a plan, that id give us space but stay in the picture as a good friend, we started out as friends and I want to eventually try again. He's said he's open to it, any comments or advice?

@kitkat34567 we're both gonna need to be okay with the break up in order for anything to happen, we're so young if we date someone else it probably won't be our last relationship, in fact some good might come out of us dating other people in the meantime, it'll give us more of a chance to figure out what we want and what we need. It'll hurt but it might help us out in the long run tbh x)

@kitkat34567 I'm someone who doesn't really mind long distance as long as I feel loved by the person and love the person deeply, it got too hard for him not me
