I want to stop caring about my ex

I already posted here before talking about telling my ex I still had feelings for him in a messy way, texting him out of the blue before blocking him, we talked and he said he didn't want to delete me right away but we haven't talked for a month. We broke up 5 months ago and I thought that by doing that I'd be able to finally let go by giving up all hope. He tried to give me closure many times and I know he doesn't have romantic feelings for me anymore, but I still struggle to stop thinking about him and it makes me really sad.

I've tried literally everything written in "how to move on" posts and even tried to work it out with my therapist. I've worked out, met new people, casually dated other people, but I still find myself wondering what he's up to, thinking about texting him and ask him how he is doing even though I know it will hurt me. Everything else in my life is okay but this is taking a huge toll on my mental health. For some reason I find myself unable to give up on hope and I blame him even though I'm fully aware it's not him, it's me.

Hey!

I hope this finds you in good health. I read what you said and i fully understand how hard it is to move on sometimes, i can relate and im sorry. From personal experience i feel like in order to move on you must let yourself feel, if you miss him then let yourself miss him. Its like how for dark clouds to clear up, they must rain and thunder. Only then will you get a clear blue sky. Try to write about your feelings if that helps and try to understand how breaking up was something you decided for good reason and how theres someone out there for you who will provide happiness but this time forever.

If visualizations are your thing, you might try the cord-cutting visualization. In case you are unfamiliar, essentially you visualize or envision a shining cord between you and him. Picture all your emotions--longing, love, yearning, hoping, despairing, wishing, whatever emotions you have about the matter--infusing that cord, filling it up. You're loading it with the emotional resonance inside you. Pour those feelings on. When ready, picture a giant scissors or knife or other sharp blade appearing, and picture the cord being sliced in two. Picture the ends snapping apart. Think about the sound of the "snip" and the snap of the ends flying apart. One end goes back to you and the other to him. You've now broken the cord of caring.

Do this as often as you need to. Do it each time you feeling the longing start to creep in. I promise it works.
