Need breakup advice

So I am going to be breaking up with my boyfriend of six years soon, (once I find the courage & balls to do it) and I'm just wondering if anyone has any tips to prepare myself.

I know when I do it he is going to beg me not to and sob and refuse to listen before just shutting down completely so I'm hoping someone has some advice on how to stay strong and not give in. This has been a long time coming for me, but to him we're soulmates.

Hello! I'm glad you're coming to terms with the relationship and putting your interests first! One of the most important things is to always maintain that mindset. Before approaching your partner, you definetly want your mind clear with positive affirmations of yourself. If your partner is hurting, they may attempt to bring you down to 'win' you back. I had a friend who made a 'pros' and 'cons' list of their partner to maintain a clear mind and remember all the aspect of them that they disliked to ensure that whenever they wanted to go back, they'd be reminded of why they broke up in the first place. Keeping these qualities of your partner in mind is important, and particularly since your relationship was so long, it may be beneficial to discuss these reasons you decided to break up. That way, it'll give your partner more closure and hopefully be a way of self-improvement. Of course, you know your relationship best, so you'd be the best judge as to how to tell your partner! As for yourself, it's important to be sure of your reasons for breaking up because if you have any doubts or uncertainties in why you'd like to break up, then those weaknesses could make you back out of the situation once it arises. Make sure you reflect upon all the reasons and collect that mental strength to have a difficult conversation. Best of luck!
