On a break because he says depression isn't really real
I have just sepearated with my boyfriend of almost 3 years.
He was strict with money, didn't like how much I ate and often called me names. The reason he said he was so honest was because he is comfortable enough to tell me these things and I should be grateful that is the case.
Late last year I was in a very dark place and having thoughts of a permanent nature. A few months out of this period I spoke up and let him know where I had been because I didn't want to get there again. We had a fight and he asked if I wanted some kind of medal or party.
Last week I brought it up again because he said I had been miserable. We have been testy since Christmas. He is extremely cynical, pragmatic, and logical and prides himself on this. He also told me I needed to get my anxiety under control if I can ever expect to have kids. Therapy and medication were highly criticised and I've constantly worried about money to the point of not eating or seeking medical help overseas when I was very malnourished (45kg, infection, and seizures). He swears he never expected me to skimp on my health but then tells me depression is overdiagnosed and I should brush it off.
Anyway last weekend I told him I wanted to be on my own and we had a fight. He told me the logical solution was to off myself or get over it. I was raped multiple times in my early 20s (now 27) and I struggle with depression from this.
I am back home with my parents and siblings but he has been talking about how sorry he is, how much he took for granted, and how he planned to propose in July.
I am currently feeling extremely alone and mourning that future I wanted so badly in my perfectionist head.
Is this behaviour of his unlikely to change?
How do you cope with deep, deep lonliness and betrayal?
