Over in a flash
I'm usually not good at sharing my feelings. I don't like to feel vulnerable. But this hurt me so bad I am looking to anybody who's willing to listen to get me out of this dark place.
My ex girlfriend and I had been going out for just under a year, and everything was going really well up until this last month. In this last month she became much more distant and usery. She was constantly asking for favors, she's a nursing student, so she had me reading all of her papers, making charts for her projects, buying food for her and bringing it to the hospital for her and her co workers. Sounds innocent enough, but then she would get home (we lived together for 9 months) and I was utterly ignored. I love yous were never reciprocated. I wasn't allowed to give her so much as a hug. Then one night it all comes out. She says she wants to move out, she's tired of living like an old couple and wants to be a typical 21 year old. I was fine with that, even encouraged her to go out. But that wasn;t good enough, she said she'd been unhappy for a month, and no longer loved me and that she was fantasizing about other people. I told her that I needed to process all of this and decided to go home to my parents for the day. When I got back she had taken most of her stuff and moved in with a friend. She says she still cares about me and I still love her very much but I just want to get past her. I did everything for her too, I made her all of her meals, did any work for her if she asked I did it, no matter hoe big or small the task. I feel like my emotions were never considered. I wasn't really even aware of any problems until everything had already ended. I feel like I was used.
I've never been anybody's first choice, always a fallback always the knock off, with friends relationships all of it. She finally made me feel like I was somebidy's number one but I guess it was all an illusion.

I'm sorry that you've experienced something like that. Love is meant to be reciprocated , by sharing, giving and caring all of it done equally. Love isn't about taking without giving back that is selfish. There is no doubt that you were caring and loving towards her and you helped her with a lot of things by the sounds of it.
Have you asked her why she sees what you have as a couple is such a bad thing? Is there more to it? Has she specifically said you are over?
I've felt the same in regards to friends and always doing for them and not being considered afterwards it isn't nice and it isn't fair. I think right now you need to focus on yourself. Take some time for yourself and give her some time. You have good qualities and you need to remember that.

Thank you that is really helpful. She didn't say we were broken up until three days after everything happened. All she would say was she wsa unhappy, that I was too laid back and should have been more upset and angry that she was cranky in the mornings and wanted me to do all of these things for her. She's been in a lot of abusive relationships before me and I think me not being agressive, being a very laid back and more even tempered person didn't give her enough drama in her life. She also used to really abuse other things and she got a taste of alcohol one day it made her want to go back to that lifestyle, which is something I've never done and I think rather than asking me if I'd enjoy coming out with her it was easiest for her to leave

Some people don't see the good in what they have. At least you can say you showed her what love can be and should be. You shall be proud of that.
@Bowiefan You might not find her tomorrow, but someday you'll find someone who won't just make you her first choice, but her only choice. When you find the right woman who will love you back as much as you love her, who will put your feelings before her own, who will light up when you walk into a room- you'll look back and be so glad you didn't end up marrying this 21 year old girl who is going to realize someday that she never appreciated how much you did for her. Don't ever think it's good enough to be someone's fall back. You have a good heart, a kind heart that needs an equally kind heart in a companion. Just because the people in your life pick you second doesn't mean you have to be there to accept the consolation prize of their company. Good luck and take care!
