Single and Confused

I dated for two and a half years. He was my first and so far only boyfriend. It wasn't the healthiest relationship but I loved him. Eventually I got fed up with being constantly hurt so I broke up with him. Now that I'm single I just feel alone now and I don't know why. I thought I'd feel happier without him but I feel pretty empty now. Any advice?

@elizabethla It's really hard to let go of first love because there's always thoughts like "Is this how things are supposed to go?" and wondering what's right because this one person can influence your perception so much. When they're hurtful, there's the temptation to assume all relationships will go this way and if maybe it'd be better to settle for them than to be alone and risk lonliness.

As much as trusting your intuition about letting someone go is wise, breakups usually hurt regardless and that's natural if it takes a while till you can be happy again. I hope you can heal after what you've learned from your relationship and I wish you the best of luck. Sending love!
