Will he come back?

Hi,

my story goes like this, I met this guy who at first I wasn't so sure of. He instantly hit it off with my family, but I still wasn't sure. We have laughed and really gotten to know eachother the last couple months. We've now been talking for about 5 months , and recently I knew that I was sure about him. He wasn't like the other guys , there was something about him that was genuinely different. He was caring and respectful. I told him how I really felt, but he said it was too late and he got burnt out of trying so hard. He told me we should just be friends. However, I can't see him as just a friend. He thought there was no way it would ever work out, but I was sure we could find a way. I feel as if I messed up and I shouldn't have let him feel like he did for so long, I was just scared. I don't think I can just be his friend. He's such a wonderful man!! Did I wait too long to be sure he was right for me? Will he come back? Should I continue talking to him or leave him alone?

@placidField4021

It might be one of those weird thing where someone likes that person back after they lose interest. And maybe u should just give a little space and but don't completely lose contact.

@placidField4021 Hi there, thanks for sharing! I know it takes a lot of courage to tell someone how you really feel about them. It sounds like in the beginning you were trying to take all precautions and really figure out if you liked him or not (and that's a good thing! don't ever feel bad for going at your own pace and taking your time until you are sure about something - so kudos to you!) There's a lot of mind stuff going on here - first thing could be that you decided you like him and he said it was too late and that kind of made you want him even more (this happens to the best of us) and there's also the idea that maybe that you have come around and admitted how you feel, he kind of feels like he wants it less now. Either way - if he knows your worth (and you definitely want the person you are going to be with to know your worth) then yes he will come back. If he doesn't know your worth then he won't (and in that case it's his loss). I think being friends with someone you like is extremely difficult - because one person (you in this case) will tend to interpret him as liking you and he may lead you on (without even meaning to) - in the end I have tried it and I think it is probably more painful to be friends with someone you like that doesn't like you back. I think now would be a good time to distance yourself a little and focus your time and thoughts on you and on doing things that make you feel good or that you enjoy doing (and focus less on him - I know it's hard, but it's possible!). i think that once he sees you doing your own thing, he may come around or at least see your worth. Take this time to take care of yourself because you deserve it. If someone really likes you then he/she will let you take your time and figure out what you want - we all move at different speeds - he should respect that you needed time to figure it out. Yes, he is allowed to feel 'burned out' or 'tired of trying' but yes you deserve someone that doesn't give up on you. If you would like to chat more feel free to message me directly. Take care and all the best! xo
