Getting over my first love (lessons plus moving forward)
Hi everyone, I’m new to this forum and I thought I’d introduce myself and why I wanted to join this. I was in a relationship with someone that originally started out for fun (keeping each other company and the physical part of a relationship) but then it grew to real love. Unfortunately, both of us were stubborn and similar and as time went on, we fought a lot, to the point where our relationship turned toxic. We broke it off after realizing this and we don’t talk much anymore. It was hard at first because we had many mutual friends but we learned to make it work where we could kind of hang out with our friends without seeing each other.
What I’ve realized as I moved on and had interest in other people is that I judge my new potential relationships off of this first one. I can’t view others potential relationships as something unique, but always in comparison to the first. And it’s taken me away from or turned me off from new relationships. I think I have some things I haven’t worked out about the first relationship yet. I think I need to make peace with that first relationship first, and I’m trying to learn how.
Sounds like you felt something unique or that that's ur person. Doesn't it bother you that they're in your circle but avoiding you? That would hurt me just as bad, if not more than breaking up because it's like they're lieing and that could destroy all that you ever had.... I could see how moving on would be very hard and treating you like they want nothing to do with you after sharing so much would be devastating really. Wouldn't feel worth it at all.
But keep ur head up and stay positive.
