Finding Your Dream Partner
Hello all :)
We've all heard from somewhere or someone, "Who's your perfect guy/girl?"
While some tend to answer this question with unrealisitc characteristics (for example, a young prince with shiny black hair, who's 6 feet tall, and who has a seensitive but tough personality), that doesn't mean that this question is too far-fetched.
Whether you are taken, single, or it's complicated, it's important to take a moment to really think about this question. But maybe try breaking it down a little by asking yourself:
- What personality traits are important to me in a partner?
- How would I want to be treated in a relationship?
- Do looks truly matter?
- What would I want life with this person to look like in 5 years from now?
- Which of my favorite pastime activities could I enjoy with this person?
- How does this person support me and help me be the best version of myself?
If you're single, it's good to make yourself a little checklist when looking for a new partner. This can help limit your options so you aren't feeling overwhelmed, and it can also prevent you from being too picky or conceded. That way, you can maybe step out of your comfort zone a little, and lead yourself into a happy, healthy, and flourishing relationship.
Even if you're taken, it's important to take a step back once in a while to really look at your relationship from on objective point of view, so you can see if it's truly right for you. If your partner doesn't meet at least half of the priorities on your list, then it may be time to end that possibly toxic relationship, and look for one that will actually build you up instead of tear you down.
Overall, we shouldn't stress too much about love. Love comes in all shapes, sizes, and times in our lives. Don't beat yourself up if all of your friends just got engaged, and you're still looking around on Tinder. Or if everyone seems to be having kids, and you don't even want to get married just yet. We all move at our own paces in life. It isn't a race. Our time will come when it's right for us.
Keeping a positive attitude, an open mind, and a kind heart is key. We all deserve to love and be loved, and we will get that one day. It just takes a bit of patience, effort, and faith.
We're all here to love and support each other in the meantime until our storms pass. Just keep going and keep spreading love (especially to yourself) and you will one day receive all of that love in return. <3
