I am SO insecure.
I have been in my current relationship for 6 years. For the most part, we are happy and dont have "major" issues for concern. Of course, we face the typical ups and downs of a relationship, but overall we are good. However, the one thing that is holding us back, specifically me, is my insecurity and lack of self confidence/independence.
The main reason for this post is Spring Break...Spring Break is approaching and my boyfriend is going on a trip with his friends to a very popular Spring Break destination where there will be lots of drinking/partying. I am SO insecure that all I do is drive myself crazy with scenarios I make up in my own head - they usually involve him cheating on me/lying, etc. Sometimes I get so far down the rabbit hole of these made up scenarios in my head, I drive myself to the point of tears because I get so upset and hurt over....nothing!! Truthfully I know and at face value, my boyfriend has never done anything to make me doubt him or not trust him. I also know it is completely healthy and normal for him to go on a SB trip. It is just my insecurity that causes these issues. It drives me mad because the sane part of me knows I have nothing to worry about, but the devil on my shoulder tells me to trust no one and that he is just bound to cheat! It's a terrible way to live and think.
As spring break approaches, my anxiety has been through the roof. All I can think about are these stupid scenarios of him at a crazy party hooking up with someone else. I try so hard to stop them, but sometimes it feels impossible. I"ve already talked to my BF about it and he does his best to reassure me I have nothing to worry about.
Any advice on how to curb my insecurities would be appreciated. I want this relationship to work. I know we will never move forward if I can't fully trust and be secure.
