Being with a depressed person
My boyfriend is very depressed which makes me depressed. Everything affects him way too much and he shows it to me. He is always distracted, doesn’t wanna enjoy things, doesn’t wanna go anywhere. If any minor inconvenience occurs, he ghosts me, he completely ignores me. When I tell him to talk to me, share his feelings, he says he doesn’t want to because it would cause a fight. I have been trying to talk, be there for him but he doesn’t let me. He hasn’t talked to me for 2 days for a fight with his mom.
We have been in a relationship for Almost 3 years and this has never happened before. Before he used to open up about things that used to make him feel sad and I used to do the same. Whatever is was, family problems to academic pressure, we used to share to each other, be there for each other. Now even if I want to be there for him, he doesn’t let me. And he is never there for me even when I want to share things let things out. This really breaks my heart cause I don’t have anyone to talk to except him. I don’t have friends, or a good relationship with my family either. I feel very alone and sad. I don’t know what to do. Please advise.
Depression is real, but so are you. He cannot act this way every time something happens, and little to no communication will break trust in a relationship. You matter, and it's not only all about him. If you've tried every angle to support him, you've done well by him to be a good friend and a good girlfriend. All you can really do now is talk to him about considering therapy or some other kind of professional help. If he gets help, he is ready for a positive change, but you cannot do it for him.
