Ghosting
Hey all,
So I imagine we're all familiar with this phenomenon that seems to be both endemic and an epidemic of our current dating culture. I've known so many people across the gender and sexuality spectrum that have experienced this. For myself, it's been too many times to count, as well for one of my friends. The one time I *did* truly ghost someone, I felt so bad (this was over 10 years ago) that the memory still hits me sometimes.
I realize that in more severe cases where a sense of safety is involved, ghosting may in fact be the best (or only) option. But all too often, it seems like it's too convenient for people in general to just move on simply by drifting away.
So yeah, it doesn't faze me anymore, but ghosting does (among other things) burn me out on dating sometimes. I feel like (to some extent) that smart phones, social media, and maybe just shorter attention spans may all figure into this.
What do you all think?
@sereneSunset26 Yeah it really does suck and is common unfortunately, especially if it's after more time like 3-4 dates or more. :/ Sometimes we definitely need breaks from online dating. I hope you will find some better people who follow through eventually.
Ghosting is one of the worst phenomena of our times, at the same time one of the most common when it comes to dating. However, I am convinced that a useful lesson can be drawn from every experience. In this case, non-communication is also a type of communication. When a person ghosts, the message is clear: they no longer intend to date you, and they are people unable to handle confrontation. So in any case it is better to lose them, since any healthy relationship requires healthy communication. We should be grateful, they revealed their true nature to us without us doing anything.

What you said above is both true and also the main reason why I no longer became negatively affected by ghosting. Any relationship worth its foundation has to be built upon that healthy communication to which you alluded. And, for better or worse, ghosting is certainly revealing in that regard.
It’s also a cowardly way to end a relationship. And immature. Agree that it’s not healthy communication.
