Long Distance Relationship and making it official?

Hello everyone! i'm writing here hoping i could have some advices about my current situation..

Currently, i am talking with a guy for almost a year now but we haven't met in person due to this whole covid situation and we still don't have any plan when to meet. Though we have talked about relationships, he told me that he is not for long distance because he is new to it. We are facing some issues along like me not fully trusting him(i have been cheated on with my previous relationship) and his lack of communication (he works in a place where cell service is stable).

One time, out of frustration, i told him that i we should end what's going on between us because i feel like it's not working anymore and how i feel that he's keeping his option open and just stringing me along. He then replied to me that he respects me and how I feel and he insisted that there is no "someone" and he does understand if I don't want to believe him. After a few days, i realize what have i done was wrong and tried to talked to him. I apologize for what i have done and asked him if he is still willing to continue to work things out. He then said yes, but due to his situation (unstable cell service) he told me that we can't talk daily. Then I asked him where I stand in his life or what are we, he told me that he definitely want to be with me but he sees that our lack of communication daily bothers me so much so he wants to keep what we have been doing without being "official" until we meet in person. I told him i respect that but there is something inside me that is thinking, "if he wants to be with me then he would have made it official. maybe he is just keeping his option after all." I don't understand and i feel like i'm stuck in this situation. I don't know what to do right now, i feel like if i continue this, the more it will hurt if he found someone else.

I hope someone can provide me a better understanding on my situatiton and some advices on what to do.
