Long distance relationship question

A little over a year ago I met this girl in a chat room. Ever since then we have been texting every day. We planned to meet in person a few months after we first started talking and she had bought her ticket and everything else (yes I even got a screenshot as confirmation) but due to an illness it was not possible, so we postponed it. However there was no actual date set for that and ever since we have talked about meeting up but it's left in the ether. We haven't even talked on the phone or face timed either. She told me she had met someone else a year or so before me and after facetiming daily they stood her up at the airport leaving her feeling pretty vulnerable. She said she was working up to phone but it's been over a year, let alone FaceTime. I understand to a point but I don't know if it is lack of trust with me because of that because she takes one step forward and then three back in our relationship, right now she had a serious health issue and asked me for time to get out of her depression but says we are still together, though we talk once a week maybe. I want to have a talk with her and ask if it's trust issues, or if we are going to be moving forward with at least phone calls, I want to meet her this year but I don't want to come across confrontational or like I am setting an ultimatum, I just want to understand what is going on and I do want more than a text relationship when I don't even know how her voice sounds like, but I am very afraid that I will make her feel pressured or like I am forcing her into it if she's not ready. Does anybody have any suggestions as to how to approach this? Thank you everyone.

Hello

It sounds like your friend is hesitant to phone or vid call because of her past experience. A year is still a long time to be in a relationship without even knowing what they sound or look like! Do you think it might be a good idea to talk on phone just as friends, without talking like a relationship or anything serious? Casual random banter can help break the ice and still maintain her boundaries so that she needn't say or express anything that leaves her feeling insecure or vulnerable.
