RS FOMO
Hi there, I’ve been diagnosed with anxiety and moderate depression and it’s been affecting my rs. :( what bothers me the most now is feeling FOMO and left out when my partner hangs out with his new friends without me.
My boyfriend and I have been together since Feb this year and we’ve gone through a lot. He tries his best to understand my anxiety and to support me during my journey on getting better however I feel it’s not enough. :,( I’m wondering if I’m expecting too much and how do I lower my expectations or better handle these emotions?
what has been bothering me recently I feel FOMO\left out, context being;
my partner has always been one to include me with his family and friends. He even introduced me to his closest friends when we were quite new together and that was what drew him to me. However as recently he took a new course, he has made new friends. These friends seem to be more outgoing and ‘fun\wild’ where they would go for drinks and hang out late- which I am not accustomed to. I don’t drink often and my partner was the same as well. Although not often like every night, it happens once or twice a month.
this caused me tremendous anxiety at first and I had tried to stop him going out with them a few times. The first 2 times he agreed to my request but eventually he grew resentful because he felt he was losing out and letting his friends down.
during this time he also shared with his friends how he felt and animosity grew between this group of friends and me (he says he didn’t air our dirty laundry but just told them whenever I asked him to go home and he was upset). So I guess the animosity isn’t to the point where it’s unsalvageable but yeah, it’s still bad.
eventually I realized in order for me to feel less anxious about this new group of friends it would be to get to know them. However when I raised it to my partner he said he doesn’t feel like it’s the right time because we both (his friends and I) have some sort of animosity towards each other + he felt uncomfortable especially knowing that I made snarky remarks about them when we had disagreements. additionally because of covid restrictions where we’re limited to meet in groups of 5 there hasn’t been an opportunity for me to meet them.
he said that he would try to make opportunities in the future or when an opportunity arises he would invite me however I still feel hurt, upset and left out. I also feel like he’s just saying it but he wouldn’t do it.
is there anything I can do to feel better tell myself to feel better?
aside from making my own plans with friends and focusing on work etc which I am trying my best!
and what can I do to improve this situation?
