Searching for Confidence to Ask
I often find it difficult to go out of my way to sway a relationship towards something more than friends. Often I think way too much of not wanting to break a friendship over a potential rejection if I try to make that relationship more than what it is currently.
What are some ways to approach this issue?
For me I like to gauge deeply into that person and try to read their signs to see if they would be somehow interested in reciprocating that type of relationship. There are some clear signs when they don't and for those it makes sense to just keep it a friendship and not it to probe any further. What are some of your thoughts?
@sunnyWriting4806 The guy I'm dating now was a friend, and I struggled with asking him out for the same reasons, but we have a really great relationship now, so I'm glad I took the risk. Part of what I told myself was that he's a super chill guy so I hoped he would sort of reject me in a nice way if he did lol. I guess also you can sort of ask them on mini-dates that involve hanging out one on one like getting ice cream or going for a walk. If someone is really not interested they might say no to those things. (They also might be comfortable doing those things as friends though lol so eventually you have to be more direct I guess).
@Daydreamer47 That's definitely insightful!
I guess knowing your friend's potential reaction towards you wanting to move that relationship further helps a lot. Also your idea of the mini-dates is really good! Something you do have an advantage with in friendships is that you can more comfortably ask the other person out to events like these to get them to know you better. I guess time will tell at that point if that person will eventually realize it.
Thanks for sharing <3
@sunnyWriting4806 I find it better not to mess with friendships unless its something that has like potential to work out longtime
