A Tricky Dilemma: Discussion
Hey guys, I wanted this to be a discussion post to share.
Do you ever have a friend or a person in general that you hang out with, and they have that one pet peeve that may be of annoyance to you? Or perhaps they make a mistake that you seem to think is not okay. Yet at the same time you don't want to be overbearing to that friend or person by calling them out on it every time they do it.
How would you approach these situations? I have had multiple scenarios in which I relented on calling out my friends which ended up to toxic build-up of frustration overtime (usually leading to a much more serious confrontation later). In the other scenario I had tried calling out my friend several times before it got worse and called overbearing and to nit-picky.
Where's the balance? How do you guys address this issue?

That's truly a dilemma. My business partner smokes and it literally turns me off. I just politely distance myself from him when he's smoking. I care for his health n wellbeing but knowing well he's mature enough and smoking by choice and my words of wisdom or advice can sound unnecessary make it hard between us.

That's true! I have an friend that also smokes a lot. As a friend I want him to perhaps quit and focus on healthier habits, yet I don't really want to say anything because I know he won't take my words too seriously and may view me as overbearing to him. I think like what you do, it perhaps takes a little effort on our side to distance ourselves from that and hope that person will end up for the better.
@sunnyWriting4806 With something like this, I really think it depends on what's going on. If the friend is doing something that you explicitly told them not to do in front of you, like drinking or smoking. I think that's one thing, but if they are just doing something that's annoying, then I think that is just something we have to get over, ya know? I hope this was helpful!

Yup that' true! It's really a judgement call at the end, what's more beneficial in certain situations may not be so beneficial in others. I guess it's really up to each individual to decide which situations warrant certain decisions over others.
@sunnyWriting4806 Exactly! It's almost like you have to "choose your battles." Sometimes, it won't be worth the argument or the possible detriment to the relationship!
