Am I a bad friend?
Hello! I have a best friend who is very talkative and a typical outgoing extravert. She tends to overshare: she describes practially any event in so much detail that sometimes it's difficult for me to handle. The problem is that I suffer from depression and an eating disorder, all of which is perfectly well-known to my friend. But when one evening I text her about how bad I feel and the very next morning I get 15+ texts, where she excitedly and in lots of redundant detail describes something connected to her private life and doesn't even ask how I am doing, I feel genuinely offended. When I get these depressive episodes, I usually prefer to be alone, by myself, and my friend knows this. So why bombard me with exultative texts when I'm feeling bad? But this thought makes me feel like a selfish person who always only thinks of herself, and a bad friend. Is it really true? Am I really a bad friend? Or is my friend taking it a bit too far with her oversharing habit?
Hello! I understand how you feel and no I don't think you're a bad friend, it's normal in your moments to want the support of your closest friends. The fact that she didn't ask you how you were going and instead talk about her story, and doing something you don't like is a valid reson for feeling sad or offended. This is human. You should tell him, even if you don't dare... Tell her that you would love her to hear from you and comfort you. You should talk to him about it, take your time that said, or if you prefer, you can talk with a listener here anonymously. I can also talk to you about discussing this in detail if you need to. Tried to take some time for yourself as well and don't think you're a bad friend, because that's wrong.
