Best Friends for Never...

I havent spoke to my best friend in month. Reason being, she hasnt been the greatest friend to me. She's been poison. Ive gone through extensive procedures to be there for her and support her. I have basically given her charity for her school when she was low on money. Ive spoiled her when her boyfriends have broken her heart. Ive taken her out to dinner when she needed to just get out. She was there for me when I got broken up with. In the past 16 years, she hasnt given a damn about me. Everytime something is wrong with me, she manages to turn it around and make it about her. Ive made new friends now and she's pissed.

Long story short, I confronted her. I felt bad and missed her. We have both been busy. I tried to fix it, but she laid all the blame on me and made me feel little and worthless. I didnt reply. She texts me today with this long paragraph about how Im childish and make her feel bad and that she has always been there for me. Im really hurt. I cant accommodate her right now. Some days I am so busy i dont have 10 minutes to shower. She doesnt care about what is going on with me and she's made it about her again. Im so hurt and I feel betrayed. She said my depression is all in my head. Everything is supposedly all in my head. How do I move on? How do I get over a 16 year friendship?

@Fortake, I'm sorry that your friend isn't being much of a friend.

It sounds like you've already taken steps to move past this unhealthy relationship to much healthier ones by making new friends. Maybe as you focus on these new friends and healthier relationships you will be busy enough to not miss your old friend so much.

Although it's easier said than done (been there done that), you do not have to accept everything she says about you and blames you for as truth. If it's not true, tell yourself that it's not. Repeat it over and over. Spend time with people who will build you up instead of tear you down.

Not all friendships and connections last a lifetime, or even 16 years for that matter. :D Sometimes, it's time for that friendship to drift off because it doesn't benefit the people involved any longer or the purpose for the relationship is over.

If it doesn't build you up, release it with love and forgiveness. But let it go.
