Can you forget how to make friends?

I feel like I have an abundance of aquaintences and the only real friendships I have are from my childhood. Two that made it that long. I went through a crazy life change recently and realized I don't know how to make friends anymore. Deeper connections. I mean relationships of all sorts have to be nurtured in order to grow but how does a single mother and most adults find the time?

@proactiveMelon21 That's a pretty common problem unfortunately. I think you've already hinted at part of the answer - finding some way to make the time to connect. And maybe a lot of that might have to happen through phone calls, text messages, etc. if it's hard to actually leave home or invite friends over.

I say this as someone who mostly does not have those sorts of connections "IRL" either, so I'm not exactly in a position to teach by example here!

@proactiveMelon21 I completely understand what you are going through. Unfortunately, as you get older it gets harder and harder to make true friends. Acquaintances are easy to find, but finding that deep connection where you can be close friends is extremely difficult. In my experience, the best bet at finding a close friend is in the workplace. It may take time and it takes a lot of effort, such as suggesting to hang out with that person outside of work. Another great way to make friends is by setting your kids up on a playdate with another child (maybe at their daycare, sporting event, etc.) But that depends on how old your children are.
