Feeling like I'm not showing the real me

Lately I've been realizing that I'm kind of putting up a 'front' with some of my friends. So I have this Bible study group that I meet up with every Thursday, and all the time I feel like I have to laugh and smile a lot when I'm around them, even though I'm a less chatty and calm type of person (I mean I still like to laugh and smile but not as often as they do). I also still have problems with depression, so sometimes I might look a little down but it's just because I'm still dealing with things.

I have to meet with them in an hour, and while I really enjoy the study and the people in it, I'm wondering if I should really put that much effort in making myself "more presentable" emotionally, meaning putting up that smile and laugh. Sometimes I don't like to talk all the time, it's exhausting. I just hope they don't question it like they've done previously because I guess people seem to mistake my lack of talking for me being upset over something, but most of the time that's not it at all.

How can I even tell them this? I don't know.

@mimameid Thank you for coming to 7 Cups and opening up so much <3 I think the best thing you can do is be honest with yourself and thos around you. I think we all go through times where we want to be liked or seen as more presentable - it's human nature :) I often fake smile and laugh a lot myself! But real connections develop by being genuine. God would want you to show your true self as well, I'm sure! He is proud of you and you should be too. I know people assuming your feelings and asking questions can be difficult, but most of the time it is because they care. Just be honest and open - if something gets hard, it doesn't mean you can't overcome it. You can do whatever you put your mind to.

I hope your meeting and study went well <3 Feel free to reach out to a listener if you ever need to!

@mimameid

I understand how demanding a task it must be to present yourself like that in order to not be misunderstood. But, not being so chatty and not needing to laugh all the time is totally okay. These things make you who you are. You don't have to pretend to be something else. Maybe the next time you are quiet and they ask you if anything's wrong, you can gently explain them that there's nothing wrong. You can tell them that you are a quiet person. I hope they will understand. Keep being you, the world will adjust. heart
