Feeling unheard in a friendship
Hi all,
I have a close friend from college that I really love and care about, but some of their actions recently really hurt me. I expressed that to them, but I still feel like I have a million more things to say and I still feel hurt and have very bruised trust.
Anyone have tips for building authentic trust in a relationship and lowering anxieties around being unheard, owning your inner voice and not giving into the other person's preferences/opinions, and building trust?
Right now I am giving it time as we are talking on the phone every three weeks, and they have offered to come visit me, which is really nice. I guess for now I want to keep talking and trying to stick to and "owning" my inner voice. I have been going back and forth since this has stressed me out a lot, and at one point I wanted a break, but then changed my mind and went to the three week plan. I want to make sure my friendships are healthy for me. I do feel like the feelings I have of being unheard are present in many of my relationships and trigger anxiety and panic attacks. I wish I had a better idea of how to truly feel heard.
