Is it unusual to not have friends?

I'm 49, married, and the father of 3 kids. And I do not have any friends. There are a few people I know fairly well at work, but it begins and ends there at the office. I had a couple of friends a few years back, but they betrayed my trust and both friendships ended at around the same time, and both were - coincidentally - from taking several hundreds of dollars from me. But even before that, I just didn't have many friends. When I meet someone new, I feel extremely uncomfortable and can't get away from the conversation quickly enough. And, to top it off, I don't feel comfortable talking to other men. It's almost a feeling of not understanding how to communicate with someone of the same gender. And - to be fair - I do not like sports, cars, and a lot of other things men stereotypically like. Does this make me weird?

Hey you sounded like me! At least you are not alone, for what's worth. In my case communication is hard (even in my native language! ). For one, you are not weird. Have a great weekend.

You are not alone, nor are you wierd. I know what you are feeling, been there, heck I am there.... I am 51 and the idea of a best friend is up there with unicorns (mythical lol). I have never experienced it, and that use to be something I hungered for (ok still do). I hate social situations, I feel odd person out, like I dont belong.I understand what you mean when you talk about being betrayed, have experienced that from so called friends and from family.

I AM TIRED OF IT. TIME TO TRY SOMETHING NEW SINCE WHATI AM DOING IS NOT MAKING ME HAPPY.You know what I mean? I am going to start by letting go of the things that have been holding me down, feeding my insecurities. I want to stop worrying about " Do they like me?" and start caring about liking myself and if they dont who cares, what makes them so special. I deserve to enjoy myself, life is short and I am tired of regrets.
