Restoring friendship after failed romantic attempt
Hey so I started off as friends with this guy and after a while into our friendship I confessed my feelings for him and he felt the same way but wanted to work slowly into a relationship. I soon would regret this. Before any of this I never was in a relationship, never been kissed or had a sexual experience. My first kiss and sexual experience was him and so I soon became attached to him but we never ended up in a relationship, the dreaded "talking stage", and that made me feel awful. He never effectively communicated with me and he was seen other people without my knowledge. I invested a lot of me too fast and left heartbroken. He apologized effectively but now I'm trying to detach myself from him. I still want to try and restore the friendship later. I'm wondering if that's a good move. During this break I'm trying to see how having him in my life benefits me because I've been working on my self esteem. I have my reservations of course because having such a bad first experience made me question my likability. I'm 20 years old so things like this are getting to me more and more. Idk what to do. Is it worth it trying to maintain the friendship?
hello @sylliputti
I'm proud of you for working on your self-esteem <3 Seriously considering who is and isn't a positive influence in your life is a great way to do this. As for your friendship, only you can make this call. We can help you figure out which path you want to take, but we can't offer advice. I do have a question for you. Do you think he makes you happy? If you stopped talking to him, would you miss that friendship? Answer these questions honestly to yourself. if you want to chat about this, please rech out to a listener :)
