When Roommates Change
So, there's this thing where my two roommates (the same ones I had last year) seem to have changed a lot. Maybe they've always been this way, and I've just never noticed it. The more troubling option is that the way they're behaving this year is "closer to their true selves" than last year because we're all more comfortable around each other. It's troubling because they are so terribly negative all the time, and they constantly talk about other people behind their backs. Now I find myself wondering "Is this how they feel about me? Do they do this when I'm not around? I thought we were friends!" It's been a really stressful situation.
Anyone else in the same boat or have advice? :/
That sounds like a really stressful situation, indeed. Being around negative people constantly can really bring a person down. What is your relationship with your roommates? Do you get along well with them? If so, how do you feel about brining up this issue with them directly? Do you think it might lead to a genuine discussion? I understand how stressful it is to be wondering all the time if they talk the same way about you behind your back. At the same time, though, even if they do, does it really matter? It's not a rhetorical question. I think it's really important to think about your relationship with them and evaluate for yourself if them talking bad about you behind your back is really something that should concern you. I really hope this situation will change soon and your living environment will get more comfortable. Good luck!
