Critical decision

I’ll start from the very beginning, I have met this girl in college 8 years ago, I liked her but we didn’t get to go out or anything, 5 years later and on my first job I found out that she’s starting at the same company as well.

We talked and things led to another and we’re together for 2 years now.

Everything went smooth we communicated everything, everything was fine we were in the perfect relationship. Then in a volunteering trip she went abroad and met her ex and didn’t want to tell me because she’s a paranoid person, always afraid of others’ reactions. But we talked it out and everything was fine.

This ex is still trying to get her back as she’s taking a course and coincidentally it appears that he is one of the new organizers of this course. Her family lived abroad for 5 years so she’s a bit lonely here in where I live. Then last november her father passed away. It was a turning point mentally for her a trauma as she hadn’t seen him twice for 5 years. She got depressed and she went to a psychiatrist that prescribed an anti depressant last march, ever since she’s on the anti depressant, she can’t feel nothing, no excitement, no sadness, nothing. She can’t even express her love towards me even though her actions are full of love towards me. Even eye contacts that we used to have are fading because she’s neutral about everything.

Now she has her VISA, she wants to go to her family where they live as she hadn’t been with them for 5 years. She wants me to go there, get married there and start our future as we currently live in a third world country so it’s financially frustrating. IDK what to do. How to help her overcome her depression? How do I make her happy? I suggested another therapist so she quits that anti depressant that ruins her life. I want to be there for her but I don’t know how I’m trying my best to make her happy but she just can’t feel nothing, she gets happy and excited when I give her gifts and make her happy but then drowns in sorrow. I want to marry her and spend my life with her. But does that mean I should leave my country and everything behind and go with her? Start over struggling in a foreign country till I stabilize?

It's important to recognize that you can't "fix" your girlfriend's depression on your own. Depression is a complex mental health issue that often requires professional help to manage. It's great that you've suggested seeing another therapist, as finding the right therapist and treatment plan can make a big difference. Encourage her to talk openly and honestly with her therapist about how the antidepressant is affecting her and explore other options that might be available. In the meantime, continue to be there for her and support her in any way you can. Let her know that you're there to listen and offer support, even if she's not able to express her feelings right now. Small gestures of kindness and love, like giving her gifts or spending quality time together, can make a big difference.
