Drepression vs relationship

Ive been in a relationship with my current boyfriend for a few months now and it was going pretty well. We have good communication which helps to smooth out any issues before they become real problems and he’s really understanding about my mental health issues as he has been through his share of hard times too.

however, my family dont approve of him… They havent even told me a good reason for it, they just dont.

Obviously, i realise that im the one in the relationship so it is ultimately my decision however, when i already suffer from bad anxiety, the constant stream of negativity really gets to me and causes me to overthink everything he says or does.

over the last couple weeks, my depression has hit me hard and i find myself Feeling numb again. I feel so emotionless that its like i dont even care that im in a relationship (until my anxiety kicks in and reminds me that i do care) … i know that ive had these spells of depression before and ill get through it but i feel so guilty not being able to give my all to this relationship

It can be hard when family is not supportive of a relationship, and it would be even more frustrating if the reason is unclear. Have you talked to your boyfriend about all of this? If he's able to understand more about how you're feeling, hopefully he can give you some extra support to help you find some comfort and clarity. Being able to talk about feelings is hard sometimes, but worth the effort in the end, in my opinion.

@LonelyGinger93 I'm sorry to hear that you're going through such a difficult time. Dealing with family disapproval and managing mental health issues can indeed be challenging. It's important to remember that your feelings are valid, and you don't need to feel guilty for experiencing depression or not being able to give your all to the relationship during this period.

Communication is key in any relationship, so consider discussing your feelings with your boyfriend. Let him know about the struggles you're facing and how it's affecting you. Having an open and understanding partner can be a source of support during tough times.

Regarding your family's disapproval, try to have an honest conversation with them to understand their concerns. While it's ultimately your decision, knowing their perspective might help you gain some clarity or find a way to address their worries.

In the meantime, focus on taking care of yourself and your mental health. If you haven't already, consider seeking support from a therapist or counselor who can provide guidance and coping strategies during this challenging time.

Remember, it's okay to prioritize your well-being and give yourself the time and space needed to navigate through depression. Your relationship can weather these challenges with patience and understanding from both you and your partner. Be kind to yourself and remember that seeking help and support is a sign of strength, not weakness.
