Ex sending flowers a month after break up

Hello everyone!

Has someone here ever got flowers out of the blue from their ex, not a long time after their break up?

It has been so confusing the past week - long story short my ex boyfriend admitted to me a month ago that his feelings for me had decreased, he was very uncertain about breaking up but I was the one who told him we should break up since i’m not going to be in an uncertain relationship.

He also wanted us to keep in touch but I told him I don’t want to for now, because it will be too hard for me. Even though I told him that, he still keeps interacting with my stories every now and then.

The most confusing thing he has done was sending me flowers to my house on 31rd of December. He added a note saying something like “thank you for everything, i’m not forgetting about you and I think you deserve these flowers” and ended it with “love you a lot, and will forever be grateful for you”.

I sent him a message telling him i’m very grateful for the flowers, and he told me that sending those flowers was a very impulsive decision he made which he thought he was an idiot the entire day after, and told me thinking about our relationship in 2023 was so heartbreaking for him.

I know he is having a hard time with the break up, even though he is the one who lost feelings. This break up is the most confusing thing I have ever went through. Mind you that I know him very well and sending flowers for an ex is so unusual for him, he didn’t even give me flowers when we were together (which i’m not complaining about because he expressed his love the way I wanted so it didn’t bother me).

Just wanted to hear some perspectives and thoughts? Maybe someone experienced a similar thing?
