Friend’s trigger causes me triggers

I just want to get this out of the way. I care for my friend and despite the rough edges, they’re still my friend. However they get triggered easily nowadays because of bad circumstances that make it look like they’re the bad guy. And during our calls on Teams, when they scream and rage in their heat of the moment when something bad triggers them, that triggers me to my own heat of the moment where I want to do something physically bad and when I almost do it in that way, they hang up and that signals me to stop and realize what I tried to do and regret it. Then I lie down in the cold bathroom floor and punish myself and call myself hurtful names and words until I am called back by them while being berated in a calmer manner. And once in a great while this repeats any time something in their life goes south and horrible. I don’t know what to do as I can’t abandon them because of their life being ruined by the ones who hurt them, but I know that this constant repeat needs to stop somehow. Please help me with advice that doesn’t involve ditching them.

I'm sorry you are struggling.

I don't expect you to dump them at all.

But you need to stop hurting and punishing yourself in this way.

If your friend is triggered and they cannot process this in a healthy manner, you need to work on identifying your own triggers and just hanging up the call and taking space.

Too people reacting the sane way, only intensifies things.

Space and calm allows emotions yo be less heightened 💜💕
