I don’t know how to act in a relationship

Hello everyone!

My name is Charles, I am a 31 year old male from Texas. Throughout life, I have dealt with some pretty traumatic experiences. My biological father tried to murder me when I was a child, I was also a victim of sexual abuse by a male baby sitter when I was 6 years old. Those are just a couple of my experiences.

As an adult, I have been cheated on in almond relationship or taken advantage for through financial means. To say the least, my experiences have lead to trust issues, separation anxiety among other problems.

i have finally found myself a woman that I am considering taking things to the next level with. However, I don’t know how to trust her. I violated her privacy by logging into her iCloud and she knows about it. It is hard for me to give personal space as I feel I am doing something to make her nit want to see me. On top of that, I am a long-haul truck driver so our tike together is short and far in-between.

when I tell you all I love this girl, I do. Or at least I think I do. I just don’t know how to act. I don’t know how to trust. I don’t know how to control jealousy. I don’t know how to control the fear of losing her.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi @shadowpanda1530

Learning how to trust again is definitely a difficult process but the fact you are reaching out looking for a way to overcome this is a great first step.

I think when learning to overcome the trust issue, it's important to be very open with your partner. Explaining how you feel would allow her to understand that it's not her specifically that you don't trust, but rather it's a result of things that have happened in your past that is causing you to feel this way.

Perhaps you can even continue the conversation to find small things she can do to help you reduce that anxiety and fear over losing her so you can help reduce the urge to act on those impulses.

Remember, that rebuilding trust is a process and will take time, so don't be too hard on yourself!

Best of luck! <3
